Grading Work Sessions
Standards-Based Grading: Acquiring, Recording,
and Reporting Data
The purpose of the work session is to study and reflect on the issues
surrounding implementing a standards-based classroom and how to begin putting
those pieces in place. During the day, we will be looking at the three main
components of standards-based assessment and grading: Acquiring, Recoding, and
Reporting student work. An important part of the day will also be looking at
what role WebGrader® plays in each of these.
Acquiring Quality Data
- Assessment: Acquiring a general understanding
- Current practices
- Instruments used to assess student learning
- Assessment FOR and assessment OF learning
- Marking, scoring, assessing, and grading: when and
why
- Practice and assessment
- Knowing the difference: what was taught and what was
learned
- Assessment VS grading
- Making it manageable
Recording and Reporting Data
- Professional Practice in a Standards-Based
Classroom
- Non-achievement considerations
- Determining a “final” grade
- Reporting frequency, to whom, for what purpose:
meaningful communication
- Next steps: Where do we go from here?
- Summation/Reflections
