Standards-Based Grading Work Sessions

Standards-Based Grading: Acquiring, Recording, and Reporting Data

The purpose of the work session is to study and reflect on the issues surrounding implementing a standards-based classroom and how to begin putting those pieces in place. During the day, we will be looking at the three main components of standards-based assessment and grading: Acquiring, Recoding, and Reporting student work. An important part of the day will also be looking at what role WebGrader® plays in each of these.

Acquiring Quality Data

  • Assessment: Acquiring a general understanding
  • Current practices
  • Instruments used to assess student learning
  • Assessment FOR and assessment OF learning
  • Marking, scoring, assessing, and grading: when and why
  • Practice and assessment
  • Knowing the difference: what was taught and what was learned
  • Assessment VS grading
  • Making it manageable

Recording and Reporting Data

  • Professional Practice in a Standards-Based Classroom
  • Non-achievement considerations
  • Determining a “final” grade
  • Reporting frequency, to whom, for what purpose: meaningful communication
  • Next steps: Where do we go from here?
  • Summation/Reflections
