Oakbrook Terrace, IL (May 4, 2010) –Collaborative Learning, Inc., a leader in online instruction planning, curriculum alignment and improvement services for K—12 schools, has joined the Surveys of Enacted Curriculum (SEC) State Collaborative managed by the Council of Chief State School Officers, Inc. (CCSSO). CLI’s associate membership in the SEC supports the Company’s mission to advance student learning through the synthesis of data, research, standards alignment, assessments, and information on best practices.
The SEC Collaborative is a membership project to support state departments of education in their efforts to align standards, assessments, and instruction in core subjects. The participation of Collaborative Learning with the SEC Collaborative members will facilitate access to collective resources of both organizations to address three educational objectives critical for the improvement of
individual students’ performance: deeper and broader alignment analysis, more responsive instructional improvement, and the measurement of classroom practices, which change over time.
“Facts and figures about what is and isn’t working in classrooms are what powers CLI’s software tools for curriculum development and improvement,” said Mike Rush, Chief Academic Officer for Collaborative Learning, Inc. (CLI.) The CCSSO’s Surveys of Enacted Curriculum (SEC) is an online system for K—12 teacher—reported data on current instructional practices and content as well as analysis of state standards and assessments in core subject areas. This detailed information complements our existing data and allows our programs to be used by districts to recommend even
better choices for teachers based on what previous educators reported to the SEC database. Put simply, our participation with the SEC Collaborative members and CCSSO brings us unmatched resources and momentum for our company’s driving mission to improve the classroom experience for everyone involved in the learning process.”
“The new collaboration with CLI will provide increased opportunities at the local level for connecting the SEC online system and the work of the State Collaborative for the improvement of instruction” said Dr. Rolf Blank, Director of SEC for CCSSO. “We look forward to working with CLI to make these data tools available and useful for teachers and leaders across many states.”
A common goal of CLI and the SEC Collaborative is to support educators at all levels for more efficient use of data, research, and information on best practices in the classroom. Working toward that goal, the SEC Collaborative has a commitment to demonstrating to educators the value for improved instruction and student learning through the alignment of classroom curriculum to state standards, district and state curriculum, and district and state assessments.
As part of the agreement, CLI will provide outreach and information to education organizations interested in contributing to the CCSSO’s Surveys of Enacted Curriculum (SEC) tools and materials. Increased participation in the SEC’s survey program by additional K—12 math, science, and language arts teachers about their actual instructional practices and content usage will lead to even more
meaningful historical data for making better classroom decisions for the future.
