Oakbrook Terrace, IL (August 04, 2010) – Collaborative Learning Inc., a leader in online instruction
planning, curriculum alignment and improvement services for K‐12 schools, announces that its
Curriculum Improvement Studio™ suite of web‐based productivity software has been enhanced for easy
alignment of instructional plans, assignments, and operational curriculum with the just‐released
Common Core State Standards.
This upgrade lets teachers and administrators quickly identify and customize appropriate benchmarks
and core standards for their students. They also can easily choose strands, attach custom standards that
reflect their unique needs, and provide proactive reporting based on collected data. (Collaborative
Learning will continue to offer state and local standards options within its software for districts and
states that choose to correlate to those standards.)
“For over ten years, our products and services have treated standards as a critical element of a viable
and guaranteed curriculum,” said Mike Rush, Chief Academic Officer for Collaborative Learning Inc. “So
naturally, we embraced the Common Core State Standards Initiative right from the start. We feel we
are doing our part to help schools provide quality education for every child by making it easy and quick
for educators who are using our productivity software to correlate to these new national standards.”
Collaborative Learning is continually looking for ways to improve the ability of teachers to develop
effective curriculum that supports standards. This May, the Company became a member of the Surveys
of Enacted Curriculum (SEC) State Collaborative managed by the Council of Chief State School Officers,
Inc. (CCSSO) to further advance student learning through the synthesis of data, research, standards
alignment, assessments, and information on best practices.
This enhancement is also reflected in Collaborative Learning’s professional development services to
support the implementation of successful standards‐based curriculum improvement programs. As of
July, all of the Company’s onsite and online professional development courses have been updated to
include Common Core State Standards implementation and transition as part of their syllabuses. Every
course facilitates teachers making data‐driven decisions through the ongoing analysis and refinement of
the planned, taught, and learned curriculum to meet the unique needs of each school or district. All of
Collaborative Learning’s professional development consultants are former educators with extensive
experience in curriculum, alignment, as well as standards‐based teaching, grading, and assessments.

About the Core Common State Standards
The Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association organized the
Common Core State Standards Initiative in April 2009 to develop a consistent, clear understanding of
what students are expected to learn, so that teachers and parents know what they need to do to help
their students. The final version of the K‐12 Common Core State Standards in reading and math were
released in June 2010. They are research‐ and evidence‐based, aligned with college and workforce
training program expectations, reflective of rigorous content and skills, and internationally
benchmarked. To date, 25 states have adopted a new set of common academic standards, which they
can adapt to their state’s individual situations and timelines. For more information, visit
